Located just 2 ½ hours from Perth CBD or 15 minutes from Donnybrook, Kambarang is a world from anywhere.

Surrounded by forest, the cabin is a quiet, peaceful escape from your real world. Numerous types of small birds will entertain you while you relax with a morning cuppa on the verandah. Walk the trails to truly absorb the delights of nature. In spring the diversity of wildflowers will delight and fascinate once you get your ‘wildflower eyes’ tuned in. Located in the Preston River Valley, Kambarang is on the traditional lands of the Kaneang people of the Noongar Nation.

April to December is absolutely beautiful away from the coast in the south west of WA. Lush and green and without the strong coastal winds, it is lovely even when it is raining.

Kambarang is above the frost line and some mornings we can look down on a mist in the valley below while enjoying the colours of the sunrise turning the trees to orange and gold and bouncing off the clouds above.

Sherry will host walks through the beautiful bushland at Kambarang from 1st September to 15th December each year. Walk goes for approx 1 hour, depending on how long participants spend taking photos. Click here for more info on the wonderful wildflowers found on our property.

Eco Cabin

Beautiful little cabin surrounded by natural Australian bushland forest

The cabin is fully self contained, with hot water shower (rainwater – great for your hair and skin), double bed up in the loft (wake up in the tree top), and two single beds downstairs, plus a couple of floor mattresses for extra kids.

There is a gas stove with grill and oven. There’s also a wood heater for winter which keeps the cabin warm and cosy, as well as having the stovetop to cook a delicious slow cook soup or your dinner if you feel inclined, instead of using the gas stove. The fire also has a ‘wetback’ to heat the water in winter (solar hot water in summer).

Ladder stair to the loft

Access to the loft is by ladder stair, so it is not appropriate for the frail elderly, disabled or very small children.

The cabin operates on a small solar with 24 volt battery power system which is not connected to the grid. It is very simple to use (much like any other household) and only requires some thought as to weather conditions (cloud cover) and timing of use of large appliances. It can run all low wattage appliances (lights/fridge/TV/laptop/phone charging) anytime, but something like a hair dryer or coffee machine can only be used between 10am and 3pm on sunny days.

If all goes suddenly black – lucky you – its bedtime! There is a torch in the shelves under the stairs for emergencies. Have fun learning to live with low electricity consumption.

The bathroom and toilet are off the back verandah

Unique to the cabin is a beautiful mosaic on the floor in the toilet. Its worth coming here just to go!

With huge thanks to Margi and assistant, Kyra, who both slaved in 40° heat to install this wonder.
