The town of Ravensthorpe is nestled into the Ravensthorpe Range
near the centre of a large shire, which includes the town of
Hopetoun, the Fitzgerald River National Park, the Frank Hann
National Park, wonderful inland bush and farm lands and dramatic
coastline. The Fitzgerald is world famous for it's range of year
round wildflowers - over 20% of WA's known plant species and is a
UNESCO Biosphere.
The picturesque town of Hopetoun reaches out into the pristine
Southern Ocean between two sweeping bays. Hopetoun is the main
eastern gateway to the Fitzgerald River National Park.
Ravensthorpe-Hopetoun Visitor Centre and Museum provide a wealth of
information. The museum and miners cottage are great attractions -
see a 72 sample display of local minerals.
Hopetoun Ravensthorpe Railway Heritage Walk Trail follows the old
railway line between the two towns. There are easy to walk sections
with plaques and picnic facilities, and great wildflower viewing
opportunities.
Over the last 26 years the
Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show has developed into
one of the best shows in Western Australia. Possibly the largest
number in the world of different species of named wildflowers are
displayed, collected from one of the worlds richest biodiversity
areas
